E-commerce

Hi everybody, Naomi Burgess here, to talk about e-commerce and how to actually make money off of websites. First things first – what’s your site like? Is it easy to navigate? Are the colours eye-catching? Do you have a good hosting service? All these things, and many others, are very important in the e-commerce sphere. I’m not saying that you should go for minimalist black/white/red colour scheme – just make sure that your website is appropriate for your product.

Building a website

Creating a website for your business is a big, important step, but it’s only the beginning. If you have your own website, you’re probably familiar with the term “SEO” or “search engine optimization”, i.e. making sure that the keywords on your site lead it to the top of the search results in Google or other search engines. You should make sure that your website is secure on one of the top spots – after all, very few people want to scroll down and flip to page 20 to find a product or a service that they need.

Establish promotion

Promotion is also very important – nowadays, if you give someone a leaflet about your product, one of the first things they’d look for is a link to a website. Same goes for business cards – you might have a fancy title and a beautiful logo, but what are the chances of people actually being interested in using your services if they can’t look you up on the Internet? Slim at best is the answer. And it goes without saying that you should include a link to your site in your e-mail signatures and social media profiles.

Running an e-commerce business isn’t as easy as it sounds, but if you put a lot of work into your website and learn from your mistakes, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t succeed!
